Store Review: Marche Rue Dix
Hello all,
Many readers have been asking me about store reviews and if they were coming back and I'm happy to say that my thrift store reviews are back in full effect!
I missed doing them as much as everyone missed seeing them and it made me so happy to know that not only where y'all reading but you were also visiting these stores.
I'm back like I never left with my review of Marche Rue Dix, a black-owned thrift store that's become a Crown Heights stand-out in very little time.
I will be rating Marche Rue Dix on five categories with a maximum of two stars for each category: Staff/Atmosphere, Variety, Uniqueness, Prices and Quality.
Staff/Atmosphere: 1.5 🌟
I visited the shop on an oddly-warm (for the winter) Tuesday afternoon and once I entered the space, I just felt comfortable. For one, the store smells amazing and the layout is attractive and easily accessible. It's like one of those places you'd want to take Instagram photos or have a mini-photo shoot in. With a quick glance around, it becomes apparent that a lot of time has been invested into the aesthetics of the store. It looks like you're walking into a real-life magazine, and to be completely, I was a bit nervous to touch anything because I didn't want to mess anything up!
Despite its beauty, the store was really warm and literally five minutes into my shopping experience, I had sweated out my edges. For those that may be unaware, that means the front of my hair that I had laid flat with gel came undone due to the level of warmth and humidity in the room. It's not a big deal but I was like "dang" because I still had a long day ahead of me but, everything else was so great, I couldn't complain.
So, if you're very sensitive to the scents from incense or oil diffusers and a balmy heat, visit with caution.
Variety: 🌟🌟
There is so much in this store and it can honestly be a bit overwhelming initially because I simply didn't know what to focus on because a lot of items immediately stood out to me. They literally have everything a thrift store should have and some.
Their inventory runs the gamut from household items to makeup to clothing and even local art and crafts. I came looking for a dress so I spent a bit of time in that department and I was glad to find dress in multiple sizes ranging from small to XL( sizes 2 to 12). The rest of the clothing also varied in multiple sizes so skinny to thick girls and gals can find something thrilling. Most of the clothing is thrifted, and/or refashioned, while all other products are new and unused.
Price: 🌟
To put it simply, these were not the thrift prices I would expect in Brooklyn. Most of the clothing ranged from $30- $100+ and miscellaneous items varied greatly from a few dollars to like $30. I understand that this store has been carefully curated and each item is in pristine condition and that warrants higher prices than other stores, but at the end of the day, the prices are a bit high (in my opinion) for a thrift store.
Quality: 🌟🌟
Superb quality all the way through. No rips, no stains, no tears in sight. All items seemed to be in dry-cleaned condition. Nothing squeamish about this spot at all.
Uniqueness: 🌟🌟
The pieces that are found here are one of a kind, and you're bound to look rather impressive wearing anything you get from this store!
The piece I got was a light pink short dress with a front zipper and slight bell sleeves. It was adorableeee. Originally, I bought it to wear to an office Christmas party but once I put it on, I knew it was a piece I'd keep forever. Unfortunately, I got way too turnt to photograph my outfit but it'll be in an OOTD post very soon!
If you're looking for a unique piece to wear to an event or just to simply add to your wardrobe, I'd highly recommend MRD because you're bound to find something that'll turn heads.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Overall, Marche Rue Dix holds strong with 8.5 🌟 stars. I defintely see Marche Rue Dix as a store that I'll revisit in the near feature alongside their adjoining cafe, Cafe Rue Dix.
If you like thrifting but also enjoy a relaxed shopping experience and you don't mind coughing up a few extra dollars for that, this is the place for you.
If you're new to thrifting and you want to be slightly eased into the process, this store is definitely for you.
For all others, visit anyway, you'll find something great!
If you end up in the Crown Heights area, please show this business some love!
