OOTD: Mixy-Matchy
Hello friends!
It's felt like the coldest winter ever in NYC.
Simply moving around has been difficult to say the least but I'm happy to say that we are warming up with temps above 30 degrees and I couldn't be happier.
A few life updates before we get into my outfit of the day.
1. I started a Youtube channel with my best friend, Jonelle.
Check out our Q&A video below.
2. I was recently employed as a Research Study Assistant.
This is a big shift from my current position and a turn into a more career-oriented path so I'm over the moon that I got this position! Three cheers for for positive career changes.
3. I kicked asssss through my first semester of nursing school with a 3.65 gpa! Through the blood, sweat & tears of my that first semester, I managed to end strong and passed well above my expectations. I'm getting a 4.0 next semester though, write that down.
Please comment below with your life updates & accomplishments...I'm tryna cheer you on!
Now, let's talk fashion.
This look is inspired by my obsession with warm shades of brown, beige, clay & burgundy, as well as my love for funky prints.
I'm the kind of girl to wear a mini-skirt & tights in negative degree weather, so don't be shocked that I'm rocking this pretty little printed piece in this look. Nothing can shake my love for a good skirt & top combo.
This look really came together around my headwrap. I haven't had the motivation to work with my hair lately and wrapping it up in a scarf has been the easiest remedy to my problem. Wearing the headwrap allows me to rock a stylish accessory and also protects my delicate head from the harsh elements.
It's a win-win, baby.
While there's a fashion rule against mixing prints, ( & i agree with the rule) it can broken when done right.
Here are a few tips on print mixing:
- Keep both prints in the same color family.
- Add a few solid pieces to the look in order to break up the prints.
- Avoid mixing different prints on the top & bottom. For example, you can wear a solid top, a print bottom & a print accessory(shoe/scarf etc.)
- Minimize accessories when wearing multiple prints.
- Avoid wearing more than 2 prints at once.
- Ultimately, wear whatever makes you happy & rock that shit!
