Recipe: Homemade Blueberry Compote
The first I heard of “compote” was on an episode of masterchef and like most things, it sounds much harder to make than it actually is.
To put it simply, a compote is a mix of fruit, water and some kind of sweetener boiled together into a thick, luscious syrup that’s unbelievably delicious.
My homemade blueberry compote is a tried and true favorite that’s full of Vitamin C, low in processed sugar and a great addition to a variety of breakfast foods, desserts and snacks.
To make this compote, you’ll need just three ingredients;
1 cup of blueberries
2 teaspoons of honey
1 cup of water
Prep & Cook Time: 20 minutes
Serving Size: 4
Overall sugar content: 26 grams of naturally occurring sugar.
Note: while making this, under no circumstances should you turn away from this compote. I swear on Beyonce, once you turn away from the compote, it will burn. Play a podcast, bring your laptop into the kitchen…whatever you need to avoid leaving because this compote needs full attention.
Steps
💖 In a small pot or saucepan, add the cup of blueberries on medium heat.
💖 Allow them to cook for 30 seconds to a minute, while you’re constantly stirring..
💖 Add the cup of water to the pot and continue stirring for 1 minute.
💖 Allow the blueberries to simmer on medium heat until the berries start breaking down like pictured below.
💖 Add the honey and lower the heat to low.
💖 Keep on stirring for another 5-10 minutes until the compote is thick and syrup-like.
💖 Enjoy!
