Do It Yourself Fashion: Rhinestone Embellished Collar

It's been a while since I've taken on any creative sewing/refashion projects because my schedule simply doesn't accommodate hours of pattern-making, draping, sewing and fitting custom pieces.

(I wish it did...)

In order to satisfy my sewing itch, I took on a little 15 minute project & I'll be sharing how I took this vintage dress from drab to fab.

This vintage piece is from Out of The Closet in Brooklyn & the sew-on rhinestones from Flying Tiger were the perfect addition for added glam.

You ready to get glamming?

Let's go!

  1.  Nylon string, transparent or  regular thread that matches the fabric.
  2. A needle
  3. Sew-on rhinestones
  4. Scissors
  5. A short tv episode to pass the time (optional)

For the sewing novices in the house, don't be scared. This is so much easier than it looks. For detailed instructions, I've included this lovely instructional video by Amanda Perna for EHow Beauty on how to properly embellish a garment with sew-on rhinestones. Note: Prior to embellishing the garment, mark where the stones will lie with some sewing chalk or pins, in order to ensure that the stones are aligned.

In 15 minutes & half an episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt later, I've taken this dress from "hmmm...." to "yesssssssss"  for next to nothing. The best part is you can do this to with any piece that you'd like to spice up or give a new life.

Pairing this look with my dangling rhinestone earrings added to the *bling bling* factor and I'm definitely feeling that for my summer outings.

I'm on a bit of a sewing kick and I'm very excited to work on my own refashions & original summer pieces and share it with y'all every step of the way.
