Beauty Review: ColourPop Matte Lipsticks

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone's feeling alright and de-bloated after the Thanks-giving aka Thanks-Taking festivities yesterday!

Today, I will be reviewing ColourPop Cosmetics! I'll be reviewing their matte lipsticks in Avenue, Lax and Limbo. Now that the holidays are upon us, this is a great stocking stuffer for any beauty enthusiasts or fanatics in your life.

ColourPop is a up-and-coming makeup line that makes focuses on fabulous but affordable makeup. Their collaborations and custom makeup sets for bloggers, YouTube-ers and celebrities have put this brand on the map.

I'll be reviewing the ColourPop matte lipsticks using five categories; shipping and packaging, ease of application, longevity, ease of removal and lip dryness. All five qualities are essential for a superb matte lipstick. With a sticker price of $6, does ColourPop rise to the occasion? Let's get into it.

A. Packaging: No frills with a dash of cute.

The lipstick packages are nothing special or out of the ordinary, but they are rather cute. The lipsticks are in a tubular container with an attached brush application and this allows for easy carrying and usage. I really like the holographic logo on the boxes...that was kinda groovy.

B. Product Application: Goes on easy, breezy & beautiful.

For the most part, these liquid lipsticks go on smoothly and dry very quickly; in under 30 seconds.

Some application tips:

1) Always apply on moisturized and exfoliated lips because the liquid lipstick will cling to any dry skin on the lips, and therefore your lips should be in a healthy state before wearing.

2) Apply chap-stick on lips 5 minutes prior to lipstick application. This will counteract some of the dryness that can occur when using liquid matte lipsticks.

3) Apply in smooth clean strokes and DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT, smack your lips together. Individually paint the upper and lower lip and allow them to air-dry. Do not rub your lips together because it'll smudge the color for some of the lipsticks.

Overall, I love how these lipsticks go on, how quickly they dry and the rich, pigmented I get with two coats max!

C. Longevity: All day wear guaranteed, even for the longest of days.

These lippies are durable as all hell. I've worn "Limbo" through a 10 hour workday and the only fading that occurred was in my inner lips due to eating and drinking. If applied correctly and on moisturized lips, this lipstick will last all day long and not smudge (unless you eat something greasy, fyi).

d. Ease of Removal: A little oil and voila, it's gone!

When removing these lipsticks, use any oil or an oil based makeup remover because these lipsticks do not budge without a fight for anything else. I use Vaseline or coconut oil on a napkin to remove it and it comes off very easily.

E. Lip Dryness: Your lips are gonna be as dry as the Sahara, honey.

This lipstick is very drying and that's why it is imperative that its not applied on dry, chaffed, flaky lips because that will only exacerbate the situation at hand. I haven't discovered a matte lipstick that won't dry the bloody heck out of my lips, and therefore, I don't blame ColourPop for the lip dryness. That's just the name of the game.

In Conclusion

Overall, the ColourPop Matte Lipstick are well worth the $6 and even more than that! They last long, look great and are rather compact. ColourPop Matte Lipsticks get my stamp of approval. Their pigmentation is similar to Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar, which I have been a fan of for over 5 years, and they're almost a third of the price of Lip Tar.
